Forteresse d'el Jadida
EL JADIDA

A small town, just two-and-a-half hours from Marrakesh, El Jadida is a little bit off the usual touristy beaten track despite its rich history.

In ancient times, the port was a familiar place to the Carthaginians and Greeks but it was not until the sixteenth century that it rose to prominence under Portuguese occupation, with the construction of the Mazagan fortress.

The fortified citadel is perfectly preserved and these days El Jadida enchants history-lovers and film buffs alike (a chance to explore the location of Orson Wells' celebrated Othello), as well as being a golfers' paradise.

When we visit El Jadida, we usually stay in the Dar Al Manar luxury guesthouse. Set between a sea and an ocean, a stone's throw from the old Sidi Msbah lighthouse.

We adore the superb view, the warm welcome from Fatima and Pascal and last but not least there is its proximity to the Royal Golf course.
